My husband and I enjoy eating out at some of our area restaurants on occasion. We have experienced several incidents of behaviors and unclean practices that I have decided to share with you that are associated with dining out. My goal is not to turn you against eating restaurant cooked food but to make you aware of some of the things that may be present that you are not aware of that is lurking there. Some of these things are just plain interrupting behaviors that your fellow man at the table beside of you may be involved in ruining you evening out of the house.
The first thing I want to bring up is cell phone use. So many people these days believe they can’t live one minute without a phone glued to their ears. My neighbor at the table beside of us is letting us all know the gossip in her family and speaking so loud that my husband and I can’t enjoy each others company. In the meantime her children are pitching food at each other and all over the back of the person next to them while mom is on the phone oblivious to their behaviors.
And how about the child that goes to the buffet and tastes a sample of the mashed potatoes with the big dipping spoon there and puts it back in the food for the next person to come along behind him. My husband caught that and informed me not to get mashed potatoes. I have watched children pick up pieces of chicken or rolls and decide they don’t want them and put them back for someone else. Then there is the child that wants to lean over the booth while standing up and lean over your shoulder while you are eating your meal.
I hate to ask for extra napkins when eating out. Why can’t they just put a napkin dispenser on your table so you don’t have to ask for them? Then there is the person who is running around with a mop and mopping around the buffet for you to have to walk on a wet floor. I can understand wiping up a spill but the whole dang floor. I am tiptoeing with my full plate in hand and hoping I don’t slip up and bust my rump in front of everyone. Then I almost tripped over a wet floor sign in the middle of the floor.
A couple of times while in a local Chinese Restaurant the manager was running around in the dining room and back to the kitchen yelling at the staff in Chinese. Then she got on the telephone and started yelling at someone. In the meantime the buffet went empty of food and we had to ask for several items to be refilled. Many times my husband and I witness staff in restaurants wiping tables, chairs, buffet counters and everything else with the same cleaning rag.
I always inspect my plates and silverware when eating out and return those that are not clean. Rarely there is a time I do not find at least one item that is dirty. Going into some of the restaurants before eating can be a big mistake. Some of them are totally disgusting.
Then there is the guy next to you that just has to blow his nose at the table. Here comes my well done ordered steak that I stick a knife into and blood runs all over my plate. The steak goes back and my appetite is gone for the day.
So hey people turn your telephones off when dining out or at least be quiet on the phone. Make your children learn manners and cleaniness around food. Don’t mop floors when restaurant is full. Inspect your plates and silverware. Blow your nose in the bathroom and cook my darn steak the way I ask you to.
