The Meaning of Flying Dreams

by yup tab

Do you often dream of flying? Do you wonder why? Is there a deep meaning behind these types of dreams?

Those who study dreams all seem to agree that flying dreams can interpreted in a number of ways. Generally speaking though, when we dream of flying it represents our spirit being freed from limitations and boundaries. It can also mean that our mind is trying to reach new heights or it is searching for something, possibly a new challenge.

When we dream of flying it could be during a time when we are given the opportunity to advance or when we feel more optimistic that change is about to occur. Yet, there are other suggested reasons as to why we dream of flying such as:

The act of flying serves as a way to rise above the mundane aspects of our lives. By rising above, we may be able to achieve a better view of our lives as a whole.

The act of flying gives us freedom from the problems of everyday life.

The act of flying gives us the feeling of being more powerful than we are in reality.

The act of flying is a symbolic act that shows that we can overcome difficulties and obstacles in our lives.

To decipher our dreams of flying in more detail, we need to be able to recall more details about the flying dreams such as:

How high did you fly?

What flight pattern did you take? Was it an easy flight or was it full of turbulence.

Where you did you fly. If you flew over your house than your dream may indicate domestic success. If you see yourself flying over your place of work, your dream could mean career success.

Did you sprout wings during your flight? If you did, what type of wings did you have?

Bird wings may mean that you will have foresight and will be able to fly metaphorically into your own future. Angel type wings suggests that you will hear news from a high authority.

Did you float in your dreams? If you floated or flew by peddling your feet, your success may be acquired with determination. This means you must not give up, even if problems have arose.

During your dream did you take off and fail? This could mean that you are frustrated spiritually or that life has you bogged down and it is hard to concentrate. This would be a good time to reevaluate your goals.

Was your flight on an airplane? Did it reach high altitude? This could mean that you can expect recognition for some work you have completed.

As you can see, understanding a flying dream can be hard. The best way to understand them is to keep track of the dream, if it is recurring. Keep a journal by your bed and record the details that you remember of your dream as soon as you awake. (Actually, this is the best method to understanding any dream.)

Do dreams really have meaning? Consider this. Dreams do come from our subconscious mind.
