An article I wrote recently entitled, December 21, 2012 Instills Fear in the Human Race, is about recent television programs putting fear into viewers regarding the end of the world based on the lost book of Nostradamus and the Mayan calendar, which ends on December 21, 2012. In the article I relate how, based on these types of programs, people will start doing bizarre things such as hording food and other items, and/or stealing, just to name a couple. Well, it has not taken long to prove me correct in that area, as a Weldon Springs, MO man has been arrested for stealing explosives in anticipation of “Doomsday”, December 21, 2012.
I realized, with the airing of these programs, that ‘crazies’ would start building compounds deep in the Appalachian, Smokey, or Rocky mountains, buying up every roll of toilet paper and paper towel on the shelf, not to mention stock piling army rations. However, I have to admit, I was a little surprised when I read about Ryan D. Webster stealing explosives.
Stltoday.com reported that in 2007, C-4 plastic explosives were stolen from the Law Enforcement Training Center in St. Charles County in Missouri. The thief cut through padlocks and a chain link fence surrounding the firing range in order to reach the explosives.
Two years later, federal agents and local police were tipped off by an acquaintance of Ryan Webster’s, who told them Webster had a small arsenal in his home, in preparation for the “end of the world” in 2012. After a search of Webster’s home, guns, ammunition, and the stolen explosives were found in a garage attic. Tools, similar to those used to obtain the explosives, were found on the premises, as well as two loaded guns in a Ford Mustang.
Ryan Webster, who is 22 years old, is being charged with possession of stolen explosives. However, he was not the only one living in the home and his attorney is arguing that the explosives could have belonged to anyone of the other people living there.
It is uncertain what Mr. Webster intended to do with the explosives. If December 21, 2012 is the time when the “world will end”, what would he need explosives for? Perhaps he is one of the self-proclaimed insightful people who have an inner knowledge that he will only share if the price is right. Myself, I think he is one of the many loonies we will be seeing and hearing about, in growing numbers, until December 21, 2012 has come and gone. Let us just hope they do not hurt anyone in their quest to survive “Doomsday”.
