Since fans heard the news that Chris Brown and Rihanna didn’t make it to the Grammy’s because he had beat her until her face was black and blue, they’ve all been wondering what exactly happened that made Brown snap.
There was a rumor on the web not too long after the incident that the whole fight started when Chris Brown found out that Rihanna had given him herpes. This is probably just a rumor created by Brown supporters who feel that this would be a good enough excuse for him to beat someone up over, however.
It seems now that the real reason might be a text message or phone call that Chris Brown received from another woman. Perhaps Rihanna heard him say something on his phone to another female that she didn’t like and tried to grab it from him. If she put her arm in front of his face to grab the phone, he could have bitten her, explaining where the bite marks came from. This incident could have then caused the couple to pull over, get out of the car, and then really get into it. Obviously, tiny Rihanna doesn’t stand a chance against 6’2 Chris Brown. Rihanna’s screams were heard by neighbors, who called 9-1-1, and Brown, probably still angry or frightened after seeing what he did to Rihanna’s face, decided it was best to flee from the scene.
So it looks like Chris Brown’s own philandering is what started this whole ordeal. And apparently this isn’t the first time the couple’s relationship has exploded in this way. Friends of Rihanna told ‘Us Weekly’ that the couple has had a very volatile relationship, breaking up and getting back together quite frequently, and that they had noticed bruises on Rihanna’s neck before. Since Chris Brown has stated that his family has a history of abuse, it’s not too far fetched that he would become abusive himself. Their argument could have triggered something inside of him that reminded him of the abuse he witnessed as a child, and he acted out without thinking about the repercussions of what he was doing.
Regardless of whether this is a product of family abuse or not, Rihanna is still a victim. She’s had to cancel shows and her own 21st birthday party, and now she’s going to have to deal with a long, drawn out legal process, tabloids, and the paparazzi honing in on her. But once this ordeal is over, it’s very unlikely her career will suffer. Her relationships and personal life, however, are another story.
And as for Chris Brown, his career as a squeaky-clean R&B king and role model to kids is definitely over. I do have to point out that violence hasn’t affected the careers of some musicians in the past; just look at P Diddy, Biggie Smalls, and Tupac. However, fans were very aware of the violent sides of their lives. And even Michael Jackson, after all of the allegations surrounding him, could make a comeback and sellout shows. But this situation is still different.
Chris Brown could make a comeback, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be the superstar he was before. He’ll still have fans, but the fans that enjoyed both his music and Rihanna’s will more than likely abandon him. So while the two have a long road ahead of them to get past this incident (and for Brown, possibly some jail time), in the end, Rihanna will emerge as the victor here.
