For some reason, many Americans believe that the more sodium, calories, fat, and meat you can pack into a single food item, the better. I have no problem with munching on something that’s not-so-healthy every now and then, but there are some foods out there that are just a little too extreme to even try. However, if you’re willing to compromise your health to taste something so greasy and delicious it could be deadly or to stuff yourself off of a smorgasbord of junk food items, you might want to try some of these sinful snacks:
The Super Bowl Stadium of Snacks – I’ll admit this junk food stadium by holytaco.com is pretty inspired. It’s a “mini” Super Bowl stadium filled with pounds of dips and unhealthy snack foods like Twinkies, Vienna sausages, Cheetos, cheese dip, and beef sticks, which are just a few of the items you will need to build your own. But it’ll cost you a Benjamin Franklin to buy all of the chemical-laden components you need to build it; especially after you buy a candy dish and fill it with Tums, Pepto caplets, and Immodium AD (you can find a picture of the stadium and instructions on how to build it here.)
The Bacon Explosion – The bacon explosion has been big news lately, and this sausage and bacon concoction that looks like a giant meat missile is every vegetarian’s worst nightmare. If you like a lot of unhealthy meat (and I mean a lot), you can attempt to make your own bacon explosion using the directions found here.
The Luther Burger – This is one of the worst junk food items I’ve ever seen. It was supposedly created by soul singer Luther Vandross, and it is basically just your average bacon-cheeseburger with one big difference; the buns have been replaced with a halved Krispy Kreme donut or two whole ones. Keep in mind that Luther Vandross had diabetes and hypertension and died from a stroke.
The Hamdog – The creator of the Hamdog (the owner of the Mulligan’s bar in Atlanta) tries to compete with the Luther Burger in terms of calories and craziness by taking a hot dog wiener, wrapping it with a deep fried hamburger patty, and topping it with chili, cheese, a fried egg, and onions (at least there’s a vegetable on there!) I think if given the choice between these two spins on classic favorites, I’d take my chances with the Luther Burger.
Pizza with a Hot Dog Crust – We don’t have this specialty pizza served by Korean Pizza Huts over here just yet, but the look and feel of it definitely says “America”. It’s a pizza with hot dog wieners baked right into the crust. (Here’s the commercial for it.) Since you can’t order it, you could whip up your own version at home. And while you’re at it, why not use mini-burgers, onion rings, and potato skins as toppings?
With the Super Bowl coming up, you could attempt to impress your guests with some of these tasty “snacks”, or you could just try throwing anything you have in your refrigerator in the deep fryer (hey, times are tough, and some deep frying and batter makes everything taste better!)
