Celebrities will seemingly do anything to slim down, and many of them have turned to very bizarre methods to do so. From eating nothing but dessert to eating nothing at all, here are some of the strangest:
Guy Ritchie’s Cookie Diet – Perhaps part of the reason for the divorce of Guy Ritchie and Madonna was the way the diva spoke of her hubby during interviews. She poked fun at the director for his lack of sex drive, which she attributed to the Cookie Diet. Basically, you replace breakfast and lunch with “cookies”, which are really grainy, brick-like biscuits that taste nothing like the warm, gooey chocolate chip cookies the diet’s name brings to mind. It’s just a new version of Slim Fast, and, just as with that fad diet, the results of this one don’t last, either.
Mariah Carey’s Pink Diet – We know Mariah Carey loves all things girly: butterflies, glitter, and the color pink. But she also loves wearing short skirts, and has to desperately diet to keep her legs fit enough to wear them. So it only makes sense for her to go on the very pretty Pink Diet, where you get to decorate your plate with nothing but pink foods. She got to eat salmon, blood oranges, grapefruit, and little else, because there really just aren’t many pink foods in the world.
Uma Thurman’s Dessert Diet – Uma Thurman has one of the most tempting diets I’ve ever seen. To slim down for her role in ‘Kill Bill’, she apparently ate nothing but chocolate, ice cream, and pudding. I guess the desserts were satisfying enough that she didn’t crave any other foods, but this diet is truly a nutritional nightmare.
Madonna’s Starvation Diet – Madonna is one of the biggest dieting queens in Hollywood, thanks to her enviable bod. Among her many extreme diets is one that restricted her caloric intake to a mere 800 calories per day, which she combined with a daily 2-hour workout. Try this one if you want to end up on the hospital food diet.
Billie Piper’s Caffeine and Cigarettes Diet – Another diet horror story is that of Billie Piper. She ended up battling anorexia, and at one point survived on nothing but coffee, Diet Coke, and cigarettes. She even attempted to eat tissue paper at one point, and constantly took laxatives and punched herself in the stomach to make her hunger pangs go away. This is definitely the worst diet on this list, and one that should not be attempted.
Beyonce’s and Gwyenth Paltrow’s Master Cleanse Diet – Many other celebrities have tried this drastic weight loss attempt, one of the many “detox diets” that have become so popular lately. You simply don’t eat and consume a lot of water with lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and a saltwater flush that will force you spend a lot of quality time in your favorite room in the house. This one sounds like a whole lot of fun and very healthy.
Other diets stars have used that aren’t quite as bad are the raw foods diet (Natalie Portman is a fan of this one), and the Zone diet (Jennifer Aniston likes this one). Some celebrities, however, opt for even worse weight-loss methods by taking drugs like cocaine and Adderall (which is a drug for ADHD that also apparently suppresses hunger), reportedly used by Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, respectively. It has also been rumored that, in the modeling industry, horse tranquilizers are a popular weight loss method.
So in Hollywood it seems that dieting is a form of sick and twisted torture. But, for common folk trying to loose weight, it doesn’t have to be that way. You don’t need a diet guru or crazy detox fasts, just the right balance of healthy and filling foods that lead to a real lifestyle change, not a temporary diet plan. You may not slim down as fast as the celebrities do, but you’ll definitely feel better and a whole lot healthier than they do as the pounds slowly peel off.
