Being able to keep your barbecue party neat and mess free can be a huge challenge. Some families would probably prefer to just put down a huge drop cloth all over the home to keep the mess off the floor. Even if you choose to eat outdoors, it is still to difficult to keep barbecue from getting everywhere and all over everything. Besides, being messy is half the fun of eating barbecue, right? Below you will find ideas and suggestions on how you can help your guests to enjoy their barbecue and still avoid huge mess.
The first problem that many have at a barbecue is the fact that you have to eat on your lap. At most barbecues you take little plates and walk around with your food while you socialize. The problem is that the sauce is usually dripping of the food and can cause a mess. With anything that is barbecue you can place in a barbecue bowl. This is basically a small to medium sized bowl where you can place barbecue chicken and ribs. If you cook the meat so that it is falling apart it will be easy to pick up the meat with a plastic fork. Even the chicken will be easy to eat with a fork if it is cooked just right. Remember that cooking barbecue meat is all about the timing. IF you marinate the meat the night before an monitor your timing, you will have no problem cooking your meat until it melts in the mouth.
Another suggestion is to place snacks such as trail mixes, and chips into small bowls or cups. You can have a table laid out inside of the home and guest can grab a cup and go. Plastic cups work best for this idea. If someone would prefer dip with their snack, you can place several small cups with the dip in it. This way your guest can take a bowl and a cup and use one of the table s you have in the yard. I often find it best to use snacks that don’t require any dip so that they only need to worry about one bowl. Try being creative with this to make it as simple as possible for your guests. A variety of different flavored popcorn is perfect for barbecues. Placing them in individual serving cups is a good idea, and it is also healthy for your guests.
I have found it best to not use paper plates for a barbecue. Plastic bowl are much easier. As long as your guest don’t have a problem with their food touching they should have no problem using the bowls. With the plastic bowls it is a lot easier to make sure that the food does not leak through and you can still walk around and eat. The bowl actually work great with the kids as well so that they can eat without trying to balance the plate.
