Valentine’s Day is a great time to cuddle up on the couch with your sweetie and watch a good romantic movie. What movie should you watch though? There are so many great romances out there for you to choose from. Here are my top 10 romantic movies for Valentine’s Day.
Sure, Titanic might not be your favorite movie of all time. It may even be the longest and most torturous one you ever saw. You’ve probably even made fun of Kate Winslet when she says, “I’ll never let go, Jack. I’ll never let go.” No matter how you feel about Titanic, you have to admit that it was one romantic movie.
9. Pearl Harbor
This is another movie which is about a historical event that makes it at the very end of my list. The reason? No one wants to watch what happened at Pearl Harbor because it is such a depressing event. The love story behind the movie is wonderful though, and probably would have made a great movie all by itself. Although it’s long, it’s another good one to watch.
8. Never Been Kissed
Drew Barrymore portrays Josie, a young woman who goes back to high school as an undercover reporter. There, she finds herself confronted with many of the same problems that she faced in high school, and falls in love. She still has one problem though; she’s never experienced her first kiss. Will she get it?
7. The Parent Trap
Who doesn’t love The Parent Trap? Most people don’t view it as a romantic movie, but it really is – especially the newer version of the movie. Twins (Haley Mills or Lindsay Lohan, depending on the version of the film) meet at summer camp for the first time. They decide to get their parents back together. Will their plan be successful?
Darryl Hannah and Tom Hanks starred in what would have been a modern, non-animated version of The Little Mermaid. Madison, a mermaid, finds herself in front of the Statue of Liberty, unable to even speak English. She then meets Allen, who does all that he can to take care of her. But is it enough? Will Madison have to go back to the sea?
5. Sweet Home Alabama
Melanie Carmichael, who is played by Reese Witherspoon, is a NYC fashion designer, though her roots are in the lower-class South. When she gets engaged to one of the city’s finest men, she has to get her first husband to sign the divorce papers that he has refused to sign for years. When Melanie returns home, she finds herself in a predicament. Does she want to go back to the past or continue with her dreams?
4. A Walk to Remember
This is a movie based off a Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name. Mandy Moore’s acting skills seem to be lacking in most of the roles that she lands, but she shines as Jamie Sullivan, a girl with many dreams who is diagnosed with leukemia. Her life drastically changes when she meets Landon (Shane West), who is the total opposite of her. Keep in mind that this one’s a tearjerker.
3. The Notebook
Also based on a Nicholas Sparks’ novel of the same name, The Notebook is a lot like a modern day Romeo & Juliet story. Allie Hamilton, a properly raised Southern girl is forced to be separated from her first true love, Noah, because he is not up to her family’s standards. Will they forever remain separated though? The chemistry between Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling is incredible, but it’s no surprise since they have dated on and off since the film. Keep in mind that this is the biggest tearjerker on this list!
2. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
If you’re not a fan of the tearjerkers, then this may be a better option for you. Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) has a goal. It’s to drive away a guy that she meets in ten days. Benjamin Berry (Matthew McConaughey) also has a goal. It’s to make a girl fall in love with him in ten days. What will happen? Find out when you watch this comedic romance!
1. Step Up
Tyler Gage, played by Channing Tatum, is a very troubled teen who gets in trouble when he vandalizes a school of the arts. When he does his community service, he meets a student named Nora Clark, played by Jenna Dewan. As different as they are, they have one thing in common: a passion for dance. When Nora’s dance partner gets hurt, this only leaves one person to fill his spot. The chemistry between Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan is very strong, which is probably why the two have been dating ever since they met while filming Step Up. It’s also why this movie is the number one romantic movie on my list.
These are my top 10 romantic movies for Valentine’s Day. What are yours?
