Don’t watch the Sci Fi Channel? Too bad, because you are missing out on some really great entertainment. This year the Sci Fi Channel introduced some new shows as well as brought back some of the classics. My top 3 shows for 2008 are Estate of Panic, Chase, & Scare Tactics. I’ve never been a big reality TV fan, but it’s probably because reality shows have never been like these three. Once you start watching these shows I guarantee that you will be hooked.
#3 Scare Tactics – New Episodes Returning in 2009
Scare Tactics isn’t new to the Sci Fi channel, it has been around for a few years. For 2008, Scare Tactics got a new host, Tracy Morgan, new victims, and a whole bunch of new scares. If you are unfamiliar with the show the premise is that someone has their friend or loved one “set up” to get the crap scared out of them. Some of the practical jokes look fake, but the people who they are done on look scared out of their whits. If you missed out on any of 2008’s best scares you can catch them at www.scifi.com/scaretactics.
#2 Chase – Tuesdays @ 10/9C
Chase is a new reality game show where contestants play for cash on giant “game boards”. Each week 10 “runners” vie for $50,000 in cash. They have to last for 60 minutes by outwitting each other and avoid being captured by the “hunters”. The “game boards” are different locations where the game takes place such as San Pedro Harbor or Universal Studios Theme Park. Players can earn objects to help them escape the hunters and try to make it to the final exit. Whichever player makes it to the final exit before the time expires will take home the cash. If no one makes it then no one takes home any cash. You can catch this show on the Sci Fi Channel on Tuesday nights at 10/9 central. If you missed any episodes then you can check them out at www.scifi.com/chase.
#1 Estate of Panic – Wednesdays @ 10/9C
Estate of Panic is by far the best reality show of the year. In this show contestants are brought face to face with their worst fears and phobias as they are housed under one roof. The host of the show, Steve Valentine (of Crossing Jordan) is the owner of this creepy house where each room is loaded with cash, creatures, traps, and what not. Contestants will rummage through various rooms and locations through out the night trying to collect as much cash as possible, without being shocked, attacked by snakes & spiders, crushed, drowned, stuck in slime, OR locked in the room forever (which is what happens if you are the last one in the room). The person who collects the least amount of money each round is eliminated until one person is left. That person will then tackle the estate’s vault where they can try to rake in as much cash as possible. Most contestants who win the game end up taking home around $25,000. If Estate of Panic sounds like a show for you then be sure not to miss it on Wednesday nights at 10/9 central.
