The PSP had a roller coaster year in 2008. While the first half of the year is filled with excellent titles, the second half only saw a handful of new releases. Hopefully, 2009 will be a better and more consistence year for the handheld system. Here are the top five most anticipated PSP games of 2009.
5. Patapon 2

Patapon in one of the most overlooked video games of 2008. Part music game and other part strategy, this slick looking game is one of the most original titles on the PSP. Patapon 2 is looking even better with new tweaks that will improve the already excellent gameplay. With a four-player multiplayer mode to boot, Patapon 2 is one game that shouldn’t be overlooked in 2009.
4. Loco Roco 2

Another extremely original game on the PSP was Loco Roco. The simple yet engaging gameplay is aided by the excellent one-of-a-kind presentation. Loco Roco 2 is bigger and better than the first PSP game in just about every way possible with new gameplay elements such as the ability to swim. Thus, Loco Roco 2 is one of the most anticipated PSP games of 2009.
3. Star Ocean Second Evolution

Star Ocean: The Second Story is one of the underrated role-playing games ever created. This classic Playstation game combines a deep real-time battle system with one grand adventure. The PSP remake, titled Star Ocean Second Evolution, will give a whole new audience a chance to experience one incredible game. Star Ocean Second Evolution should please the role-playing fans of the system.
2. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

The next chapter in the Kingdom Hearts series is exclusive to the PSP. Despite being a handheld title, the game looks about as good as its console counterparts. The gameplay managed to remain intact as well with its solid combat. One difference is that your adventure is now split between three different heroes instead of one. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep will be a worthy successor in the series when it arrives in 2009.

Some of the most popular characters in the industry come from the Final Fantasy series. Until now, there wasn’t any big crossover game to bring these famous characters together. Dissidia: Final Fantasy is a fighting game with a role-playing twist. As a result, you get one of the freshest and most original games on the PSP. Not to mention the amount of Final Fantasy fan service in the game will make fans weep in joy. Don’t be surprised if Dissidia: Final Fantasy ends up being the best-selling game on the PSP in 2009.
