Instead of going to a tropical island or Fort Lauderdale, many people decide to take road trips for spring break. This is one of the best ways to see America. Some of my best vacations as a child and an adult were spent riding in cars with friends and family. There are a few places in the United States that everyone should see, and a road trip during spring break is the best way to enjoy them.
Everyone should take a road trip to the nation’s capitol at least once in their lives. Of course, they should see the Washington Monument, the National Mall and Lincoln Memorial. People should also try to tour the White House and see the Holocaust Museum.
New York City, NY
Before September 11, New York was an interesting city because of the culture and tourist attractions, such as a Broadway play. Now, it is a historic landmark because of what was once part of the landscape no longer exists. No one should leave the city without taking the subway, which smells like urine, or walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.
New Orleans, LA
New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, deserves to be visited to see what has happened to this historical landmark. Most of the touristy attractions have been repaired, but visitors should see the real parts of the city that haven’t been cleaned. They should also take a road trip south of New Orleans to see what a hurricane can do to an area.
A road trip to Seattle during spring break has a lot of things to see. For those interested in historical landmarks, visit Pioneer Park. It’s not a road trip to the city without visiting the Space Nettle. Instead of just staying in the city, go to some of areas outside the city with their mountains and various trails.
The Navajo Nation
This is the largest Native American reservation in the United States. It’s a square that covers four states, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado. It was the Navajo language used by code talkers during World War II during the battle over the Pacific. This people still holds on to a lot of their cultural identities.
Las Vegas, NV
Vegas offers more than gambling to visitors of Sin City. People can take in a number of shows headlined by musicians both old and new. Visitors can stay in one of their luxury hotels, which offer a number of deals to travelers or see what kind of accommodations exist outside the city limits.
Napa Valley, CA
Through the months of March and April, the height of spring break, they have a number of events that visitors can enjoy, including a number of wine and cheeses. Wine aficionados can participate in their wine tasting. Visitors can take advantage of accommodations among the vineyards. Of course, those on a road trip should not drive while intoxicated.
Myrtle Beach, SC
This is a perfect spring break road trip destination for people who want to enjoy the beach but don’t want to deal with the usual atmosphere of Fort Lauderdale or Cancun. Once people arrive to this destination, they can rent a place right on the beach or rough it at a campground. Imagine falling asleep under the stars. Visitors can participate in a number of events, including sports, beach activities or live shows.
Grand Canyon National Park, AZ
Located in northwest Arizona and bordering Utah and Nevada, this is one of the seven wonders of the United States. At this road trip destination, visitors will see the Colorado River that runs through the canyon. People on spring break can take advantage of their accommodations or camp.
Visitors see life as it once was when the early settlers came to North America. At Williamsburg, people get to see people dressed in period clothing and demonstrate colonial crafts. Visitors can participate in workshops or just tour the city. They even have the African-American experience, reenactments of the lives of enslaved and free black who made up half the population in Williamsburg. It is a physical journey through history.
For many people, spring break is not about being on a crowded beach. Some prefer the adventure of getting in their cars and taking a road trip to see the country. These people can get to see many of the historical sites in the country or visit some of the greatest cities around the United States. In order to determine how long it will take to drive to any of these destinations, visit their websites or a travel website to get the exact mileage from your point of departure.
