As I looked upon the corner, dancing in the sunlight
was a small spider spinning a web, making her home.
She went back and forth from one wall to the other, leaving a trial behind her.
Ninety percent of the time she was in the air,
Yet she confidently kept working on her home.
Inside that small insect was Trust, the instinct,
that she knew she was doing the right thing though her eight legs only rarely touched the solid wall. Overhead a small sparrow flies carrying a freshly caught worm to her babe.
She has no store or stock of food, but she gets what she needs and raises her young.
She trusts that the Great Creator has provided for her and her family.
And He has. In the tall grass a young child plays, running and jumping
with no care about tomorrow’s problems – carefree and happy,
as he dances and laughs in the sunlight.
The mother watches from the house at the innocence and knows
that there is food and clothing for her child.
In a world filled with hate and strife that consumes so many;
these small wonders show us the Trust that lives here too.
God is always there. And we must somehow know that He cares for us.
When the chips are down, and the money’s run out on yesterday’s bills, we must somehow know that God is always there – ever-watching from His Close Place,
Knowing that there is food and clothing for the winter.
This is the trust of a tiny babe for his mother.
Trust is like the first snow of winter –
It covers the hills and valleys, and the people of the village huddle warmly inside their small log cabins. The light of the fires are seen in the glow of each, in their eyes.
Like a blanket it covers us and keeps us warm
as the wind blows and the night sneaks in.
You can’t touch it, can’t see it, but you can feel it and know that it is there.
Trust covers us from the inside and keeps us from the outward temptations.
In the darkness of night, the lights from the cabin send a warm glow over the mountainside.
And you can see this from the city in the distance.
This is the Trust that God gives you and me.
It is a free gift – given with His Love. Come take as much as you need
for there’s always more where that came from.
It even fills our universe.
Trust is the action word that turns faith into doing, not hoping.
It moves in and out of our soul. It is shared between us and then back to God
and it never fails because its origin is in the Highest One.
Like a blanket on a cold night, it covers my world, and like sunlight on a summer day it fills my soul.
