I really miss the days of getting to make Valentine boxes for school and seeing all the different kinds of cards I would end up getting from everyone in my class for our Valentine’s Day party. But it’s still fun to dream of ways to make Valentine boxes for this fun school tradition, and you can help your daughter create one that will be the envy of all the girls at school. She will love impressing her friends at her school party with this rockin’ Valentine Box, especially if she plans on handing out Hannah Montana Valentine’s cards to everyone in her class:
To make it, you will need a few sheets of letter-sized neon pink poster board, a full-body cutout of Hannah Montana from a magazine or online, some Hannah Montana stickers, heart stickers or cutouts, a few sheets of regular neon pink paper, a sheet each of a few other neon colors, colored markers, and any other fun decorative items you might like to include on the box.
First you’ll want to cover the lid of the box and the box with the regular neon pink paper by wrapping them separately so the lid can be removed. (Don’t worry if you can see any seams; you’ll be covering the box with decorations, so no one will notice). Alternatively, you can buy a lot of pink paper, cut out heart shapes, and cover the box with hearts to give it a little dimension.
Next you will paste the picture of Hannah Montana onto a piece of the pink poster board and cut her out, leaving a small tab of poster board at the bottom of her feet. This tab will be bent backwards and later glued on the stage so she will stand up.
Cut a piece of the poster board to match the length of the box and make it about twice the height of the box. This will be glued onto the back of the box behind Hannah Montana to form the back of the stage. You can also cut pieces of poster board to fit the sides of the box, leaving only the front open. Decorate the back and sides of the stage with drawings of lights, laser beams, neon star and heart cutouts from the neon paper, heart stickers, Hannah Montana stickers, and the Hannah Montana logo before you glue them onto the box (just make sure to only decorate the part of the poster board that will show over the top of the box). Try to use lots of different colors and make sure everything is really bright. You can also search the web for photos of Hannah Montana shows to try to replicate some of her stage settings if you want to make your box look really authentic. Once you have the pieces of the stage prepared, glue the bottoms of them onto the appropriate places on the box. Just make sure you don’t glue the pieces to the lid, because you have to be able to remove it to get the Valentine’s cards out.
Now just cut a slot in the lid of the box for the Valentines, glue Hannah Montana in the center of the stage, and finish decorating the bottom of the box with your hearts, stars, and stickers. If you want to get really creative, you can even glue a piece of poster board over the stage as a roof and hang star and heart cutouts from the top of it with string for even more of a 3D effect.
Making this box will be almost just as fun as looking through all of the great Valentine’s cards your daughter will get from her friends. But the best thing about it is that your daughter probably won’t want to get rid of it, and she can continue to use it as a keepsake box or for storing her favorite Hannah Montana items in.
