Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to host a dinner for those you love. To add a festive touch to your table, consider these elegant frosted glass “love” plates to dine on.
For this project, you will need:
– Four ten inch clear glass plates
– Soap and water
– Paper towels
– Fine grit sandpaper
– Tack cloth or other soft cloth
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Cherry Red
– Krylon Frosted Glass Finish in White Frosted Glass
– Krylon Leafing Pen in Red Shimmer
– Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive
– Large, fancy letter “love” stencil
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Newspaper or large drop cloth
For easiest cleanup when this project is complete, first cover your work area with a few sheets of old newspaper or a large drop cloth. Wash each of the four clear glass plates with soap and water. Dry each of the plates thoroughly with paper towels. (There should be no moisture on the surface of the plate whatsoever.) Gently sand the top of the plate with fine grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust from this process with a tack cloth or other soft cloth.
Spray the front of each plate with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for three to four hours. Spray the front of each plate with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Cherry Red. Wait an hour before adding a second coat of red paint. Dry overnight.
Place a sheet of cardstock on a self healing mat. In pencil, trace the fancy lettered “love” design onto the cardstock. Cut out the image with a craft knife. Repeat this process for three more designs, creating ultimately one per plate.
Spray the back of one of the cardstock designs with Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive. Adhere the design in the center of one plate, smoothing with your fingers to prevent bubbles. Repeat with the remaining three designs and plates.
Spray the front of each of the plates with Krylon Frosted Glass Finish in White Frosted Glass. Dry for three to four hours before adding a second coat. Dry overnight. Add a border to each plate with a Krylon Leafing Pen in Red Shimmer. Dry for five to six hours.
Peel the cardstock designs off the plates. Wash, dry, and enjoy!
TIP: For an added design, consider cutting out heart shapes from cardstock and adhering them to the plates at the same time as the “love” design.
