You finally have a chance to take down one of the Imperial generals during the Chapter 10: Liberation of Fouzen mission of Valkyrie Chronicles. Doing so is anything but a cakewalk, however. Here are some tips to help you bring down the armored train boss.
You will rely heavily on the Edelweiss in Chapter 10: Liberation of Fouzen mission of Valkyrie Chronicles. Thus, you need to spend most of your funds and upgrade your main tank. Otherwise, you will need a little bit of everything. So spread your experience points out equally.
Fouzen is home to many ragnite mines. By freeing it from the Imperial’s control, the pendulum will swing right back to Gallia’s side. However, the city is guarded by an armored train with devastating attack capabilities. In order to reclaim the city, you must find a way to take the train down.
Destroy the bridge under the armored train.
– 20 turns passed
– Welkin dies
– The Gallia’s base camp is captured
– All ally units (including reserves) are killed
As usual, include Rosie, Largo and Alicia in your unit to give yourself extra CPs per turn. Also bring along one engineer, one sniper and one more shocktrooper. Do not position your units near the flag since the armored train will launch a mortar attack directly at it after the first round ends. You should leave the rest of the spots clear for now and send in reinforcements after the coast is clear.
Aside from its long range mortar attack, the armored train also has machine gun turrets that will aim for anyone within its line of sight. So make sure your ground units are always out of its line of sight by taking cover. Finally, the boss will fire its cannons at your tanks. Fortunately, it won’t kill your tanks in one hit, giving a chance for your engineers to repair them in the next turn.
Trolley Cars and Industrial Lifts
You were first introduced to trolley cars in the previous mission of Valkyria Chronicles. These transportation devices allow one unit to quickly move around the map and sneak behind enemy lines. Trolley cars are perfect for the sneak-happy scouts like Alicia.
In addition, you will be introduced to Industrial Lifts for the first time in Valkyria Chronicles during this mission. These elevators allow tanks and ground units to move to the next level. In order to activate it, you must flip the switch on the control panel in the same area.
Your first objective in the Chapter 10: Liberation of Fouzen mission is to destroy the northwest bridge on the map. From your base camp, move through the west bridge and then make you way north at the intersection. Have Alicia ride the trolley to get to the ledge above and activate the industrial lift (don’t ride it yet). Afterwards, have her take out the two shocktrooper at the bottom if possible.
You only need one of your tanks (the Shamrock is recommended) to defeat the enemy’s medium tank and ground units up north from the intersection. If you want to be careful, bring Largo and an engineer along. Once you are done taking over the enemy’s northwest camp, destroy the makeshift camp to the left of it. Doing so will prevent any more enemy reinforcements from the north.
At the same time, you want to take out the medium tank blocking your path on the bridge connected to the east side of your next destination. Use the Edelweiss to fight it head-on while utilizing a sniper to take out any ground units in your sight at the same time. After defeating the tank, clear the path on the bridge by disarming land mines and destroying the barricade.
Do not enter the area after the bridge until you have a tank and shocktrooper in your group. This is because a group of enemies will be waiting to ambush you. Not to mention that ground units will be vulnerable to the machine turrets of the armored train.
With the area after the bridge cleared, ride the industrial lift to the east in order to advance. In addition, you can also activate the south one for a shortcut to your main base camp.
Before advancing, however, you may want to destroy the makeshift bridge to the southeast. Doing so will prevent any enemy reinforcements on that side. A couple of ground units should be able to get the job done.
The Final Stretch
The lost enemy stronghold lies on the north path towards your destination. A medium tank and several ground units will be waiting for you. Take care of the remaining units and occupied the last enemy camp. Victory is now in your hands.
Use a scout to go north, activate the industrial lift and ride it. Stand next to the X-marked spot and aim for the bomb at the bottom of the bridge (press the L1 button if you are having trouble locating it). Send the armored train and General Gregor crashing down by firing at the bomb.
Congratulations at beating the Chapter 10: Liberation of Fouzen boss of Valkyrie Chronicles!
