Trevor crept carefully through the dark eerie forest, his steady footsteps slow and cautious. Wet slippery leaves lay scattered over the slick forest floor, squishing softly beneath his sneaker-clad feet. Thick heavy fog hovered just above the rain soaked ground, making it difficult for the young man to see. With a feeling of growing apprehension and dread, Trevor glanced upward at the dark ominous storm clouds covering the night sky.
A low menacing growl echoed through the rain-drenched forest, causing Trevor’s heart to pound hard inside his chest. Spinning around at the frightening sound, he immediately sensed an evil presence lurking nearby. The terrified young man quickly increased his speed, crashing through the dense forest at a fast and frantic pace. Low hanging tree limbs slashed across his unprotected face, leaving bleeding wounds on his once smooth and flawless skin. After fleeing in terror for several minutes, Trevor was forced to stop and catch his breath.
An unseen presence stood in the dark shadows of the fog-enshrouded forest, silently watching the young man from a short distance away. As she crept slowly up behind her unsuspecting prey, her nostrils flared at the scent of his fresh young blood. A fierce and raging hunger gripped her immortal body as she slowly lowered her mouth to within inches of the human’s enticing neck.
Trevor felt icy tendril of fear seize his exhausted body as an unnaturally cold breath lightly tickled the back of his sensitive neck. Then his body suddenly stiffened in shock when sharp deadly fangs sank deep into the tender flesh at the side of his throat. A low muffled groan escaped from between his slightly parted lips as mingled pain and pleasure washed over him in waves. Dropping to his knees onto the cold wet ground, he felt himself slowly drifting in and out of consciousness. Then a warm and soothing sensation claimed his weakening body, causing the nighttime surroundings to turn darker and gradually fade away.
A smug, triumphant grin spread across the demon’s blood-stained mouth as she gazed down at her victim’s pale and lifeless body. Placing one long, sharp fingernail against her right wrist, she cut a small gash across her unblemished flesh. She then lifted the unconscious man into a sitting position and pressed his mouth to the bleeding wound on her wrist. Trevor stirred slightly in the demon’s strong embrace while he greedily drank the vampire’s life giving blood.
Trevor’s eyes suddenly flew open, but failed to penetrate the darkness as he struggled to draw in a breath. While attempting to shift his cold, shivering body around, he found to his dismay that his movements were restricted within a small, cramped space. He felt cool moist dirt surrounding him on all sides and he became overcome by panic as realization slammed into him full force.
Oh my God! his mind silently screamed. I’m buried alive!
While fighting against the rising hysteria, Trevor dug frantically at the moist dirt with both hands. After several long and terror-filled minutes had passed, he finally broke through the packed soil and scrambled quickly out of the dark, smothering grave. His gaze darted fearfully around the dark forest as he swiped at the mud plastered to his clothes. Feeling disoriented and frightened, he leaned wearily against the huge trunk of a tall oak tree, pondering his current situation. He knew he had been changed somehow, but there was no one around to answer his questions or instruct him in his new life.
“Hello sweetheart,” a female voice greeted the newly risen fledgling. “I’m happy to see that you are finally awake.”
Trevor spun around at the sound of the familiar voice behind him. His startled brown gaze widened at the unexpected sight of his former girlfriend. “Cy-Cynthia?” he stammered, “Is it really you?”
“Yes Trevor,” she replied with a radiant grin. “It’s really me.”
“How can you possibly be alive?” he asked in stunned disbelief. “I attended your funeral last week and I put fresh flowers on your grave this morning.”
“Well, to be perfectly honest, Trevor, I’m not truly alive. At least not in the way you are referring to.”
“You are not making any sense, Cynthia. What exactly are you saying?”
“I am a vampire, sweetheart, just as you are a vampire now too.”
“What are you talking about?
“We are what people refer to as the undead. We are creatures of the night.”
“If what you are saying is true, how did I become a vampire?”
“Don’t you remember what happened to you last night?”
“No,” Trevor replied with a slight shake of his head. “What did happen?”
“You were wandering here in the forest alone. Seeing you again made me realize just how much I have missed being with you. I knew I had to make you mine, so I crept up behind you and I bit your neck. I am the one who turned you into a vampire. We are now bound for eternity by the blood that we shared last night.”
“Whoa! Hold on a minute!” Trevor exclaimed loudly. “Are you saying that I drank your blood last night?”
“You willingly drank from my vein, sweetheart, and you savored every drop of my blood as it flowed down your throat.”
“How could you do this to me, Cynthia? Why didn’t you just let me die instead of turning me into an evil, blood thirsty demon?”
“I couldn’t let you die, Trevor. I want us to spend eternity together. This is our chance to renew the love we lost. Haven’t you missed me at all, sweetheart?”
“I have missed you terribly, Cynthia. I just don’t want to be a vampire.”
“I’m afraid that is out of your hands, my love. You cannot change what you have already become.”
“Oh God,” Trevor muttered as he sank down onto the muddy ground. He suddenly groaned and doubled over as excruciating pain gripped his body. “My stomach hurts real bad. What’s happening to me?”
“You need to feed,” Cynthia explained while kneeling beside the sobbing young fledgling. “Once you have fed, my love, the hunger pangs will go away.”
“Take me hunting now,” Trevor begged through tightly clenched teeth. “The pain is getting worse.”
“You, my dear, are in no shape to hunt,” Cynthia replied as she swept the damp hair off the young vampire’s tear stained face. “Wait here, sweetheart, while I go fetch you a nourishing meal.”
Cynthia rose swiftly to her feet and quickly disappeared among the fog-enshrouded trees. She returned several moments later, dragging a bound and gagged young woman behind her.
“Are you ready for some fresh warm blood, Trevor?”
“Yes!” the young fledgling hissed as sharp hunger pangs gnawed relentlessly at his empty belly. “I’m starving!”
“Enjoy, sweetheart, she’s all yours!”
Trevor scrambled quickly to his feet, lunged for the frightened young woman and pulled her roughly against his body. He yanked her head to the side and sank his sharp deadly fangs deep into her soft, tempting neck. She moaned and struggled feebly as he slowly but greedily drained her of her life giving essence.
After several moments had passed, Trevor lifted his blood-stained mouth from the human’s throat and flung her down onto the rain soaked ground. He stood gazing down at the motionless young woman, feeling his strength rapidly returning to his immortal body.
“How are you feeling, my love?
“Much better,” Trevor replied as he continued to stare down at his first victim’s pale and lifeless body. “I am going to enjoy being a vampire!”
