The State of Gujarat, situated on the Western coast of India, is full of the most beautiful site seeing spots. I belong to Gujarat State and have stayed in this state for around forty years and have visited most of such tourist’s places number of times. The Bet Dwarka is one such wonderful place for the outing as well as the pilgrimage for Hindus.
This island is situated in the middle of the sea in bay of Kutch. It is around 20 miles away from the city of Dwarka and can be easily reached by the State Transport buses or hired cars and taxis. It hardly takes around thirty five minutes to reach Bet Dwarka from Dwarka city. The hired cars charge around Rs.500 ($10) for the entire too and fro trip to Bet Dwarka including the waiting time to visit the site seeing places. The tourists need to travel in a motor boat or the rowing boat to reach up to the Bet Dwarka. It would be better to travel by the motor boat so as to reach quickly to the island within around thirty minutes. The rowing boats take a long time of around one to one and a half hour depending upon the wind velocity at the time of travel. The too and fro charges of the motor boat are Rs.25 (fifty cents) per head. There may be a long waiting for motor boats on Sundays and other festival holidays. The boat journey is extremely enjoyable and many rare birds can be seen during this unique journey in the sea. Make sure to carry some food items for feeding these birds. There are many important site seeing spots here at Bet Dwarka. The most vital place is the temple of Dwarikadhis. This temple of Lord Krishna is very spacious and beautiful. The story goes like that Lord Krishna was staying at this island during the summer with his chief wife Rukshmani so as to avoid severe heat of the city of Dwarka. The temple has a gold plated statue of Lord Krishna in an attractive sitting posture. The morning and evening arti rituals are worth attending at this temple in case you happen to be at the temple at arti time. There are also Jain temples of Shankhodwar at Bet Dwarka. These Jain temples are having statues of all twenty four Jain Tirthankars. The seat of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is also situated here at Bet Dwarka. It is one of the holiest places of pilgrimage for Vaishnav religion in India.
The sea beach at Bet Dwarka is also beautiful and you must take out some time to sit on the beach to enjoy the beauty of the sea and also to concentrate within yourself in the quiet and spiritual environment here. It takes around three hours to visit all site seeing spots at Bet Dwarka. You have to commence your return journey of motor boat after that. There is a very famous Rukshmani temple near Bet Dwarka at only around 12 miles away towards the city of Dwarka. Rukshmani was the chief queen of Lord Krishna. It is said that Lord Krishna had sixteen thousands one hundred and eight wives in all. This temple is also worth visiting during your return journey to Dwarka. There are no nice hotels or restaurants at Bet Dwarka. Hence, it would be better to stay at Dwarka and visit Bet Dwarka as one day outing. Make sure to start from city of Dwarka city at around 9 am in the morning after having a nice breakfast so as to reach back to Dwarka by around 2 pm in the afternoon. There are some small tea and coffee stalls at Bet Dwarka but food may not be available up to the standard of most of the tourists. Also, make sure to carry your own supply of drinking water with you as the drinking water available here is not pure and may not be hygienic for the persons who are not used to drink such water. You must plan your visit to Bet Dwarka in such a way so as to return back to the city of Dwarka by around 6.30 pm latest in the evening. There are few very nice hotels available at Dwarka for the tourists. Hotel Dwarka offers three start facilities at the rates of around Rs.1000 ($20) per day for a nice double room. The standard Gujarati food items are available at Dwarka in ample. Though, the non vegetarian food and the alcoholic drinks are banned within the city limit of Dwarka.
Thousands of people visit this holy and beautiful place every year from all over India and abroad. Would you like to be one of them? Then, Make sure to visit Bet Dwarka during your next visit to India.
