Saturday I had a chance to try out Walmart Vision Center. I was a bit apprehensive but I did do a little online research to review different people’s opinion of Walmart Vision Center.
Well, let me first state, I don’t have any other optical experiences to compare this Walmart Vision Center to. So I took my child to get an eye exam. I had to make an appointment and that place was very busy. People were coming in an out, one after another. My appointment was for the next day.
So on Saturday we arrived at 9:30am. The appointment was for 9:45am and the Vision Center opened at 9:30 and there was already two people waiting. The Optician took us pretty quickly and she did all the test and eye exams. The eye exam was $65.00 but there was another test that was recommended for $15.00 and then another test for $12.00. The final price was $86.00. I didn’t have vision insurance on my child’s insurance.
The optician was really nice and personable. She gave us the eye glasses prescription and I decided to have the prescription filled at the Walmart Vision Center. It was a guy inside with the white doctor-like coat which was very dirty and very overly grown eyebrows and messy hair. I thought to myself I haven’t seen a unkept sloppy doctor before.
I gave him the prescription and he told me that this was a really “heavy” prescription for a first pair of glasses. I thought it was my fault that I had let my baby go this long without having glasses. He told me the schools should have caught it and if the parent doesn’t wear glasses it might be hard to recognize it. My daughter just thought that it was kinda of normal to see objects blurry in the distance.
Anyway, he was really knowledgeable about what was in style and what most popular in her age range. He steered us away from the pink and purples because of her age and she is right on the cusp of not wanting “little girly” colors. For a first timer, he was really good at helping us make an informed choice from the enormous eye glasses selection. He warned us about not taking her glasses off at school because if kids like your frames, they could pop your lenses out and replace it with theirs. I had no idea of eye glass theft. Wow.
All in all it was a painless experience. Everyone was happy with everything. In total with the glasses and exam it was I paid $235.00. I don’t know if maybe I would’ve came out better if I had gone to Pearl or For Eyes. But i’m satisfied with Walmart Vision Center.
