Brown and pink has become a very popular wedding reception color scheme. These adorable brown and pink striped place card holders can be created very inexpensively and also used as a guest favor.
For this project, you will need: (per place card holder)
– 3 inch by 3 1/2 inch wooden photo frame
– Medium grit sandpaper
– Tack cloth or other soft cloth
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Ballet Slipper
– Krylon Short Cuts Brush on Paint in Espresso
– Masking tape
– Brown cardstock
– Light pink cardstock
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Scalloped edge decorative scissors
– Elmer’s glue stick
– Brown ink gel pen
– Brown ink pad
– Typewriter style wood mounted rubber stamp in the couple’s monogram
– Newspaper or large drop cloth
Cover your work area with a few sheets of old newspaper or a large drop cloth. Remove the backing and glass from a 3 inch by 3 1/2 inch wooden photo frame. Set these components aside, as they will not be needed until the end of the project. Gently sand the wooden frame with medium grit sandpaper. Use a tack cloth or other soft cloth to wipe away any dust on the photo frame.
Spray the frame with an even coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the frame dry for two hours. Paint the frame using an even coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Ballet Slipper. Allow the pink paint to set for two hours before adding a second coat of paint. Let the frame dry for an additional three to four hours.
Cut strips of masking tape. Adhere the masking tape vertically on the pink painted frame, leaving various sized vertical gaps or “stripes” exposed on the frame. Do this until the frame has several of these vertical “stripes”. Paint the gaps with Krylon Short Cuts Brush On Paint in Espresso. Let the paint dry for an hour before adding a second coat. Dry overnight.
Use a ruler and a pencil to mark a section of brown cardstock small enough to fit in the frame. Cut out the shape with a self healing mat. Use a ruler and pencil again to create a section of light pink cardstock that is just smaller than the brown. Cut out the pink cardstock with scalloped edge decorative scissors. Mat the pink cardstock on the brown cardstock with a glue stick.
Press the typewriter stamp into the brown ink pad. Transfer the image to the cardstock. Write in the guest’s name with a brown gel ink pen. Let the inks dry completely. Insert the glass in the frame, add the cardstock, and secure the backing.
