William Balfour has been arrested for the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother, and nephew. His attorney Joshua Kutnick argues that there is not a strong case against William Balfour. Kutnick claims that William Balfour is merely “a convenient suspect.” According to E! News, Kutnick also argues that since William Balfour was scheduled for a parole hearing soon, Chicago police were pressured to quickly charge him with the murders.
Until this week, William Balfour had been named as a “person of interest” in the Jennifer Hudson family murders. William Balfour is Jennifer Hudson’s estranged brother-in-law. According to Associated Press, he had been arrested after the Hudson murders on parole violation. He had served seven years in prison for attempted murder and a vehicular hijacking. Whether or not he is guilty in the Jennifer Hudson family murders will have to be determined once he is formally charged.

Jennifer Hudson is not the only member of the American Idol family to experience tragedy. This month, obsessed Paula Abdul fan Paula Goodspeed was found dead outside Abdul’s home. Police suspect suicide.
Paula Goodspeed had auditioned for American Idol 5. She was a talented visual artist who had drawn impressive life-size drawings of her idol Paula Abdul. Paula Goodspeed wore a hot-pink outfit and bore striking resemblance to Abdul. Her vocal talent did not match her artistic ability as her rendition of Proud Mary was riddled with off-notes and shrill tone. After being turned down by the American Idol judges, including her hero Abdul, Paula Goodspeed apparently became angry and discouraged with her music career.
