Crafts are a wonderful way for children to spend a blustery, snowy winter afternoon. If you have exhausted every possible craft idea and are looking for something new – look no further! This article will offer easy to follow instructions on how your child can quickly and easily create a “nutty” skier to add to your winter decor. This charming craft project requires only a few supplies and is simple for even the smallest of hands to complete.
Supplies Needed For A Nutty Skier: Two Popsicle sticks, one large walnut, one large peanut in it’s shell, one hollowed out acorn, two googly eyes, one small red pom pom, a strip of red ribbon, glue and scissors.
Getting Started On Your Nutty Skier Project: Help your child to cover his or her workspace with a sheet or two of newspaper to protect the surface underneath. Have your child wash his or her hands and lay out the gathered supplies in front. Light a fire in the fireplace, admire the falling snow out the window and begin working on this fun winter project.
How To Make A Nutty Skier: The first step is to glue the Popsicle sticks together to make the skis. Hold the sticks together evenly and use several drops of glue to hold the sticks together. Have your child hold the sticks in place until the glue does it’s work and the Popsicle sticks are firmly in place. Take the large walnut and place several drops of glue on it’s bottom and adhere it to the skis. This will be the body of the skier. Take the peanut and holding it sideways, glue it to the top of the walnut. This is the nutty skier’s head. Once the peanut is in place, use the hollowed out acorn to glue to the back of the peanut to make the skier’s hat. Be sure the point of the acorn is facing outward. Glue the two googly eyes to the peanut just below the acorn and the small red pompom to the pointy tip of the acorn to finish off the hat. The final step in creating the nutty skier is to tie the length of red ribbon around the “neck” of the skier, just where the walnut and peanut meet and use several drops of glue to keep the ribbon in place. You now have an adorable little nutty skier to place on a shelf, mantle or bookcase to brighten up the gray and gloom of winter. If desired, your child can add embellishments to the project such as painting the nuts and skis or using faux gems to give it a little sparkle.
This very simple and easy craft is fun to make, requires only a modicum of supervision and will happily entertain your child on a long winter afternoon when boredom can easily set in. If supplies are plenty and the mood strikes, don’t stop at just one nutty skier, make a whole family! Create a skier to represent each member of the family and display them in a prominent area of your home to delight visitors and give your home some cheerful winter flair.
