Dreary winter weather getting you down? Build some routines into your life to try to add some cheer to your winter. And remember, winter doesn’t last forever. Spring will be here before you know it. Just imagine it and soon enough it will be here. Some tips to make the winter more palatable include:
Fish oil may help ease depression. So if you don’t eat enough fish to get the health benefits that way, you may want to add some fish oil to your diet. It may improve heart health and perk up your mood. I take it on occasion, especially in the winter.
Fresh fruits are cheerful. Keep a bowl of colorful fresh fruit on a table in a central location in the home to give yourself a little smile every time you pass it. Remind yourself of the beauty of nature. Eat fruits and display them in your home too. Seeing a little nature about the house reminds one of what really matters in life, the earth, health, and a good mood.
Play music to lift your spirits. I like to play music as I write, clean, or just hang out at home. I find it helps rev up my mood or if I am stressed it often soothes me too. Music tells us what our bodies and souls need. Sometimes when I have music on my body just wants to dance. It always makes me smile when I just sort of find myself dancing around for no reason, just the joy of it.
Plan a garden
Go online and browse the gardening sites. It is nice to escape the reality of frigid weather outside by looking at flowers and dreaming of summer. Keep a notebook full of ideas you find online. Get organized for your summer garden and allow yourself to imagine how beautiful your upcoming garden will be.
Get out and go dancing. Nothing beats just dancing for hours and letting your body get energized and rejuvenated by the music.
Read a Book in ExoticLocale
Escape reality with a book set in a location you have not visited yet. Explore the unknown via reading. Let your mind enjoy learning of the details of a new place and dream about visiting it some day !
Exercise three times a week for thirty minutes. Exercise is believed to help lift depression. Rev your body up with exercise and enjoy the benefits of better sleep and better overall health.
Take a daily vitamin to help fill the possible gaps in your daily nutrition. The benefits of vitamins are still highly debated. I take a daily vitamin just to be safe. Taking the vitamin is just as much a part of my daily morning routine as brushing my teeth.
Have some plants that flower inside during the winter months. I keep red geraniums on the windowsills in my living room. When I walk into the room in the morning and see the sun setting the red flowers aglow it always brightens my mood. Right now I also have a red amaryllis plant which is about to flower. This dramatic plant adds a lot of joy to a room!
When the going gets tough, the tough drink hot cocoa. Ha ha. I love to sit inside when it is snowing and enjoy some hot cocoa. I don’t drink it often but it is sooo soothing when I do.
