Future shows on Nicktoons Network not only include ‘Wolverine and the X-Men’, which premieres January 23, but also ‘Iron Man: Armored Adventures’ and ‘Penguins of the Madagascar’. ‘Iron Man’ is scheduled to premiere in October 2009, and ‘Penguins’ will begin March 28, 2009.
‘Wolverine and the X-Men’ is the fourth in a series based on the X-Men characters. The first three were ‘Pryde of the X-Men’, ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’, and ‘X-Men: Evolution’.
The History of Wolverine
Wolverine, also known as Logan, is a Marvel Comics superhero mutant who first premiered in 1974 in ‘Incredible Hulk’ #180. Wolverine is characterized by his retractable claws that pierce through his skin at the hand knuckles when it’s time to fight. He also has the ability of super fast healing, which comes in handy during combat.
Wolverine is a conflicted character. Wolverine is a loner, yet he is thrust into a position of leadership and authority. My son’s favorite X-Men character is Wolverine. “X-Men is all about Wolverine, because he’s the strongest and he gots claws!”
X-Men: A great influence on children
Wolverine and the cast of X-men all have special abilities, each making them unique. Wolverine has a keen sense of smell. Rogue can absorb people’s memories, strength, and powers by touching them. Iceman can freeze things. Cyclops can shoot fire from his eyes. Storm can control the weather. Mystique can shapeshift. Professor Charles Xavier is wheelchair bound, yet he has super telepathic powers.
Each of these X-Men characters shows children that it’s okay to be different. It’s okay to have special abilities. It’s also okay to have weakness. X-Men continues to be positive role models for children.
‘Wolverine and the X-Men’ Animated Series
The new animated series ‘Wolverine and the X-Men’ seems to continue where the X-Men movies left off. In a short spoiler clip, we learn there is an apparent threat to the government. Senator Robert Kelly blames the mutants, and the Mutant Response Division begins bringing in the mutants for detainment. Wolverine makes the decision to bring back the X-Men in an effort to help the detained mutants. “We’ve got a job to do. The world needs the X-men,” Wolverine announces.
