Attempting to work a full time job is difficult in itself, but adding to the mix the strain of trying to earn a degree on a part time basis can seem overwhelming. Many people are working hard to be successful in their careers and some would like to pursue further training or a degree, but trying to fit it all in one’s schedule can be daunting.
Some workers want to change careers, some would like to move farther ahead in their company and others have the desire to earn a high level degree. Most of the time a change in careers or the possibility of promotion involves going back to school and receiving additional education.
Attending the traditional educational setting for many people is impossible but the idea of online distance education is a concept that is feasible for some. There are hundreds of distance education programs on the web, more than half of the traditional schools offer some time of online education program.
The most beneficial aspect of distance education is you can still keep your full time job and the flexibility of online education means that pursuing a degree can be done after personal and family commitments are taken care of. Online distance education is especially beneficial for working moms as many times the mom is trying to juggle a full-time job, the household chores and managing the kids at home.
Online education is also great for saving on time that so many with full-time jobs do not have. In the traditional educational settings, the student needs to commute to the campus, find a parking spot and walk to class. However, with distance learning programs, the degree can be earned through the computer in the comfort of ones own home. Many also do not consider that online education can also save on money, since staying at home is part of the deal, money is not spent on gas, less wear and tear on the car and there is no need to pay a babysitter to watch the kids.
Online distance education does have its own set of issues such as it is very easy to put homework or projects off since the a traditional class setting is not required, so a tremendous amount of organization is needed along with a set routine. It is also imperative to have a quiet place in the home to work where one will have the least amount of distractions as possible.
Also, since the education process is taking place in the family home, family members need to be supportive and on board with the fact that you as a student will have and require your boundaries when you are working on your distance education program.
While it is never easy to work a full-time job, keep family commitments and try to earn a degree on a part-time basis, the idea of distance learning may be more manageable for some as compared to attending the traditional educational setting.
Remember that it is possible to earn a degree while working full-time and although online distance education will not be easy, it will be well worth it in the end when you are holding that degree in your hands.
